Удручающая дороговизна пишущих оптических приводов, использующих технологию "голубого лазера", обусловлена не только относительной новизной последних, но и несколько прохладной реакцией ведущих производителей, все еще до конца не уверенных в перспективах новой технологии. Поэтому не удивительно, что рынок с жадностью ловит любую информацию относительно планов основных игроков на массовое производство устройств записи на носители нового поколения.<br /><br />На этот раз, источники из среды тайваньских производителей порадовали нас слухами о намерении компании Quanta Storage, одного из основных поставщиков низкопрофильных (slim-type) оптических приводов для мобильных компьютеров, начать массовый выпуск устройств записи на диски Blu-ray (BD) для ноутбуков во второй половине 2007 года. Предполагается, что технология производства будет позаимствована у компании Sony, в рамках программы OEM-кооперации. Однако, как отмечает источник, не исключена возможность использования считывающих головок, разработанных компанией Sharp.<br /><br />На сегодняшний день, только три компании: Matsushita Electric (Panasonic), Pioneer и Toshiba наладили выпуск низкопрофильных записывающих оптических приводов с использованием технологии "голубого лазера", BD или HD DVD, в промышленных масштабах. Компания Lite-On IT, ранее планировавшая выпуск оптических приводов нового поколения для мобильных компьютеров, заявила о смене ориентации компании на производство пишущих BD-приводов для настольных ПК.
