Фил Харрисон (Phil Harrison), исполнительный вице-президент компании Sony по компьютерным развлечениям, известен своими интересными и ценными, но порой противоречивыми, высказываниями. В одном из своих недавних интервью Фил дал свою оценку основному игровому продукту компании, а именно PlayStation 3.<br /><br />По его мнению, после выхода консоли нового поколения все перспективы продукта увязаны с активностью программистов. Действительно, PlayStation 3 имеет сравнительно меньше игр, чем ее конкуренты. Будущий год должен стать годом игр, без них у консоли не будет успеха, а именно разработка игр высокого уровня является наисложнейшей задачей при работе с консолью. По словам высокопоставленного чиновника, сегодня игры для PS3 используют менее половины ее потенциала. Огромная вычислительная мощь Cell и одновременная архитектурная сложность порождают большие трудности при оптимизации программного кода. Фил Харрисон отметил, что, возможно, создатели игр так никогда и не загрузят консоль на все 100% вычислительной мощи. Поэтому чиновник говорит о наличии у PlayStation 3 «безграничного» потенциала для разработчиков. Игры 2007 года должны будут поднять планку визуального качества игр PS3, но и тогда она справится с ними «одной левой».
