Ведущие южнокорейские производители плазменных телевизионных панелей, в число которых входят Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics (LGE) и Daewoo Electronics, планируют начать в 2007 году производство плазменных панелей, не содержащих свинец. Так, компания LGE в середине следующего года выпустит устройства, при производстве которых вредный для здоровья человека тяжелый металл будет заменён на висмут. Аналогичные решения в конце 2007 года также начнут поставлять заводы компании Samsung. На рынок панели поступят к началу 2008 года.<br />Подобные мероприятия проводятся с целью соответствия постановлению Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), действующему на территории ЕС. И хотя RoHS не распространяется на плазменные телевизионные панели до 2010 года, уже многие ведущие производители отказываются от использования свинца в своей продукции. Отметим, что свинец в производстве электронных устройств входит в состав припоев, а переход на бессвинцовые сплавы требует значительных материальных затрат.<br /><br />Тем не менее, японская компания Matsushita Electric Industrial уже поставляет продукцию с лейблом RoHS. Поддержала её и Hitachi, которая тоже планирует выпуск бессвинцовых плазменных панелей в середине 2007 года. Сообщается, что их примеру решают последовать и другие производители телевизионных панелей.
