Цитируя Стэна Глазго, президента и главного операционного директора Sony Electronics, источник сообщает о том, что в следующем году компания планирует существенно расширить круг продуктов, в которых применяется процессор Cell.<br /><br />К сожалению конкретики пока мало. О чем именно идёт речь, Глазго не уточнил, зато были названы сроки выхода первых продуктов с Cell - конец 2007 года. Тогда нас ожидает выход трёх или четырёх новых решений из области потребительской электроники, построенных на базе данного процессора.<br /><br />Разработанный специально для игровой консоли PlayStation 3, Cell может иметь от 7 до 9 ядер и обеспечивать производительность, двадцатикратно превосходящую современные микропроцессоры, используемые в ПК.<br /><br />Далее мы можем лишь предполагать. Скорее всего, в бытовой электронике будут использованы процессоры с меньшим количеством рабочих ядер. Архитектура Cell предполагает отключение нескольких ядер при полном сохранении работоспособности остальных. Такой подход поможет Sony увеличить рентабельность производства, технологический процесс которого пока отлажен не идеально.<br /><br />В части сферы применения Cell можно предположить, что его будут задействовать в системах управления Цифровым домом, в медиарешениях, работающих с видео высокого разрешения. Для более простых продуктов производительность процессора, скорее всего, будет избыточна.<br /><br />Что ж, подождём подробностей от самой Sony, и проверим, насколько близки наши предположения к действительности.
