<br />Китайские инженеры с 2003-го года разрабатывают свой собственный формат для внутреннего рынка - EVD. На сегодняшний день уже 20 фирм - составляющих 97 процентов от всех производителей DVD в стране - продемонстрировали 80 проигрывателей и представили планы по полному переходу на этот формат в 2008-ом году.<br />EvD, как и VMD, является менее дорогостоящей альтернативой Blu-Ray и HD DVD. В основе формата используется обычный красный лазер совместно с продвинутой технологией компрессии для размещения на диске фильмов в высоком разрешении. Такой "красный лазер высокого разрешения" позволяет добиться поддержки разрешения вплоть до 1080р без значительного увеличения емкости диска, а так же установки цены на уровне стандартных DVD моделей. <br />EVD не единственная попытка Китая создать технологию для внутреннего рынка и стать независимыми от внешних стандартов и лицензий. Эта технология, как и многие, вряд ли получит широкое распространение где-либо еще за пределами. Что, на самом деле, не особо хорошо - ведь вне Китая нашлось бы не мало фирм, желающих стать партнерами и развивать стандарт вместе.<br />Так же стоит упомянуть, что разработчики планируют продавать фильмы через, так называемые, "киоски закачки-записи, и дать возможность совершенно легально переносить видео с носителя на на свой жесткий диск.<br /><br />
