Компания NME, та самая, которая недавно заявила, что решит спор между HD DVD и Blu-ray путем разработки своего собственного нового HD-стандарта, похоже, сдержала свое слово. По крайней мере, в плане разработки обещанного формата VMD, призванного стать конкурентом двум гораздо более известным форматам. <br /><br />Насколько успешно VMD удастся конкурировать с HD DVD и Blu-ray, покажет время, а сам первый VMD-совместимый плеер разработчики обещали продемонстрировать на грядущей выставке CES, которая состоится в январе в Лас-Вегасе. Как сообщается, новинка будет отличаться более чем умеренной ценой – всего около 175 долларов, что, конечно, радует (ведь цены на плееры конкурирующих стандартов «начинаются» от $500). <br /><br />С технической точки зрения следует заметить, что в VMD в отличие от Blu-ray и HD DVD будет использоваться не синие, а красные лазеры (напомним, что именно они использовались в CD и DVD). Что касается ёмкости VMD, то пока о многослойных 100-гигабайтных носителях не идет и речи, да и вообще VMD-новинки позиционируются прежде всего как недорогие альтернативы более именитым соперникам. <br /><br />Конечно, в США, где позиции сторонников Blu-ray и HD DVD весьма сильны, формат VMD вряд ли будет пользоваться популярностью, однако на рынках восточноевропейских стран и стран третьего мира этот стандарт вполне может прижиться. Так ли это будет, мы узнаем через год-другой.
