С развитием цифровых носителей и ростом популярности HD-телевизоров все более актуальным становится новый стандарт передачи данных HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface). В отличие от IEEE 1394 (Apple продвигает его как FireWire, Sony - как I-Link), история которого насчитывает около 10 лет, сравнительно молодой HDMI рассчитан на передачу несжатых мультимедийных данных с возможностью шифрования в рамках стандарта HDCP (High-bandwith Digital Content Protection). По единому соединительному кабелю возможна трансляция видео стандартного и высокого разрешения и 8-канального звука. 
Мультимедийный интерфейс высокого разрешения находит все более широкую поддержку среди основных игроков рынка компьютеров и бытовой электроники. Понятно, что интеграция HDMI во все медийные сферы ничего, кроме пользы,  простому пользователю не несет. Некоторыми производителями уже налажен выпуск видеокарт с интерфейсом HDMI, что позволяет подключать домашний компьютер к ТВ. При условии поддержки телевизором HD-разрешений появляется заманчивая возможность превратить его в большой монитор для просмотра фильмов и 3D-игр. 
Компьютерные платы для обработки HDMI-контента – еще одно интересное для пользователя направление по внедрению передового стандарта передачи данных во все жизненные сферы. Один из фаворитов в этой области компания Blackmagic Design представила новую PC-карту Intensity для захвата и обработки видео и звука через интерфейс HDMI.

Плата предназначена для стандартной шины PCI-E x1, оборудована двумя разъемами HDMI и способна на работу с видео в различных разрешениях  вплоть до HD-разрешений 1080i (1920x1080 точек, чересстрочная развертка) и 720p (1280x720 точек, прогрессивная развертка). К сожалению, поддержка перспективного режима 1080p (1920x1080 точек, прогрессивная развертка) в данной плате не предусмотрена. 
Blackmagic Design заявляет о совместимости Intensity с такими популярными программами, как Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe, а также практически со всеми, которые используют DirectShow или QuickTime. В продаже новая плата появится после 15 октября. Рекомендованная производителем цена - $249.
