Seiko Epson Corporation начала массовое производство высокотемпературных поликремневых (HTPS) тонкопленочных панелей серии D6. Новые панели будут использоваться в 3LCD проекторах, а также найдут применение в HDTV телевизорах и фронт-проекторах для домашних кинотеатров.
Разрешение и качество изображения значительно усовершенствовалось в результате быстрого развития цифрового телевещания высокой четкости. Это повлекло большой спрос на большие HDTV экраны для домашнего пользования. Таким образом, можно ожидать, что новые D6 экраны займут заметную долю рынка. Но открытым пока остается вопрос цены.
В панелях серии D6 используют гибридную технологию. Также это первый продукт, в котором нашла применение фирменная технология Epson Crystal Clear Fine, которая была разработана еще в прошлом году. Она позволила достигнуть еще большей контрастности, улучшить качество изображения.

Приведенная схема требует пояснений. Слева изображена панель, используемая сейчас, а справа вы видите панель, построенную по технологии D6. Как видите, главное отличие состоит в размещении контроллера интегральной схемы (на рисунке LCD driving controller IC) и количестве интегральных схем обработки изображения на управляющей электронной плате (в традиционной панели их 16 на электронной плате, а в новой всего одна). В D6 панелях управляющий контроллер интегральной схемы размещен прямо на соединительном кабеле. Такое решение позволяет создавать еще более компактные экраны.
