В то время как фильмы на HD DVD лежат на прилавках магазинов уже с 18 апреля, желающие приобрести первые диски с кинопродукцией в формате Blu-ray вынуждены будут ждать 20 июня, то есть, ещё неделю. На днях Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) подтвердила эту дату в качестве дня начала продаж фильмов на дисках нового стандарта (напомним, что ранее первые кинокартины на Blu-ray должны были увидеть свет 23 мая сего года, но затем их релиз был отложен).
Впрочем, список первых наименований от SPHE, которые будут доступны в первый день официальных продаж, более чем скромен, и включает лишь 7 фильмов:

«50 первых свиданий» (50 First Dates);

«Пятый Элемент» (The Fifth Element);
*
«Правила съёма. Метод Хитча» (Hitch);
*
«Дом летающих кинжалов» (House of Flying Daggers);
*
«Три икса» (xXx), «Терминатор» (The Terminator);
*
«Другой мир: Эволюция» (Underworld Evolution).

Немного разнообразия в этот список, правда, внесёт голливудский монстр Warner Home Video (WHV), который планирует в этот же день выпустить на Blu-ray ещё два фильма – Syriana и Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Столь длительные задержки в выпуске фильмов на дисках нового формата представители ведущих киностудий, в том числе и Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, объясняют неясностью ситуации со сроками начала массовых поставок соответствующих плееров. Так, изначально планировалось, что Samsung выпустит свой первый проигрыватель Blu-ray BD-P1000 23 мая, однако впоследствии компания перенесла эту дату на более поздний срок. Аналогичная ситуация сложилась и с Pioneer. Что же касается самой Sony, идейного вдохновителя технологии Blu-ray, то она отложила начало продаж своего Blu-ray-плеера BDP-S1 и вовсе на 15 августа, причём даже эта дата ещё окончательно не определена.
