Компания Verbatim объявила о начале массового выпуска носителей формата HD-DVD Recordable и Blue-ray Recordable/Rewriteable с третьего квартала 2006 года.<br />Близкий по своей структуре к DVD, новый диск HD DVD-R от Verbatim имеет один слой общей емкостью 15Гб и производится на фабрике Mitsubishi Kagaku Media's (MKM) в Сингапуре (Singapore). Двухслойный диск HD DVD-R емкостью 30Гб будет выпущен к концу 2006 года.<br />Широко известная в качестве разработчика структурных красителей для CD-R и DVD-R, компания MKM внедрила в HD DVD-R новый краситель, спроектированный специально для этого формата. Высокий уровень чувствительности красителя к голубому лазеру позволяет минимизировать температурное вмешательство между различными метками данных, что является ключевым параметром, так как информационная плотность HD DVD почти в 3,5 раза больше, чем плотность стандартного DVD.<br />Процесс производства HD DVD-R был разработан на заводе компании MKM в Сингапуре, на котором впервые в мире стали производиться двухслойные диски формата DVD.<br />Инженерные образцы нового продукта Verbatim/MKM уже тестируются основными производителями программного обеспечения и устройств чтения/записи данных на предмет совместимости.<br />Производство Blue-ray Recordable/Rewriteable расположено на заводе по выпуску оптических дисков MKM в Японии (город Mizushima). Первоначальные поставки Verbatim будут включать однослойные диски емкостью 25GB обоих форматов: BD-R с возможностью разовой записи и BD-RE с возможностью перезаписи информации.<br />Новые диски Verbatim BD будут включать запатентованное жесткое покрытие ScratchGuard, производства MKM. Эта защитная оболочка является ключевой технологией в производстве BD дисков, так как слой для записи информации на BD ближе к поверхности и не защищен пластиковой подложкой как DVD. Новое жесткое покрытие будет предохранять записывающий слой BD от царапин и отпечатков пальцев и позволять использовать диск без упаковок и кейков.<br />Инженерные образцы Blue-ray Recordable/Rewriteable Verbatim/MKM также уже находятся в процессе тестирования.
