Это примерно в 100 раз больше по сравнению с однослойным DVD и в 20 раз больше по сравнению с однослойным Blu-ray-диском. <br /><br />Работа над технологией под названием микроголография велась с 2003 г. Основным барьером было увеличение коэффициента отражения света в толще накопителя, который удалось повысить по сравнению с ранними наработками в 200 раз до современных значений. Данные в голографическом диске GЕ записываются не на его поверхности, как в современных оптических носителях, а в толще. Структура диска состоит из множества микроскопических зеркал, которые отражают свет, формируя нули или единицы. <br /><br />Для чтения голографических дисков GE не требуется какое-то специальное оборудование. Здесь используются те же детали и форматы, которые используются для чтения CD, DVD и Blu-ray. Поэтому в голографический привод легко можно добавить поддержку всех современных оптических форматов. Кроме того, использование аналогичных компонентов значительно удешевляет конечные продукты. «Наша технология позволяет создавать недорогие, надежные накопители, которые в итоге могут быть в каждом доме, - рассказывает Брайан Лоуренс (Brian Lawrence), возглавляющий исследование. – День, когда вы сможете записать вашу коллекцию фильмов в высоком разрешении целиком на один диск, ближе, чем вы думаете». <br /><br />GE планирует продавать лицензии на изготовление голографических дисков и устройств различным компаниям. Появление первых продуктов на базе этой технологии ожидается в 2011-2012 г. Предположительная стоимость одного голографического диска составит $50. Таким образом, стоимость 1 ГБ составит 10 центов. Для сравнения, стоимость 1 ГБ емкости Blu-ray-дисков, когда они появились в продаже, составляла $1. <br /><br />На первом этапе General Electric планирует предложить новую технологию киностудиям, телевизионным компаниям, медицинским учреждениям и различным организациям, работающим с большими объемами данных. В последствии технологию планируется вывести на потребительский рынок. <br /><br />Между тем, первая работа, посвященная голографической записи информации, была опубликована в 1960-х годах. В 2008 г. к массовому производству голографических дисков емкостью 300 ГБ планировала приступить компания InPhase Technologies. В 2007 г. компания Call/Recall разработала голографический диск, способный вмещать 1 ТБ информации. Компания Pioneer летом прошлого года сообщила об успешной разработке Blu-ray-диска емкостью 500 ГБ.<br />
