AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) дисплеи имеют несколько явных преимуществ в сравнении с жидкокристаллическими и плазменными дисплеями. В первую очередь к ним относятся высокая яркость, высокая контрастность, исключительно малое время отклика, широкий угол обзора, низкое энергопотребление. <br /><br />Как правило, для AMOLED дисплеев используют пластиковые подложки вместо стеклянных, поскольку они позволяют сделать дисплей легче и тоньше.  Используемые ранее пластмассы плавились при температуре более 400 градусов, что затрудняло их производство. Новый субстрат пластика способен выдержать необходимые в процессе производства температуры в 450-500 градусов. Новые пластиковые подложки не склонны к поломке в процессе производства.<br /><br />Samsung покажет прототип гибкого 4,5 дюймового AMOLED дисплея толщиной 2 мм, с разрешением WVGA 800х480 пикселей, а также 14-ти дюймовый прозрачный AMOLED дисплей для ноутбуков. Для использования в телевизорах и мониторах предназначен прозрачный 19-ти дюймовый AMOLED дисплей.  <br /><br />Прозрачность подобных дисплеев в выключенном и включенном состояниях составляет от 10% до 30%, что позволяет использовать их как встроенные в автомобильные стекла ТВ дисплеи.
