Еще в апреле появились первые сообщения о начале разработки новой версии этого беспроводного интерфейса, которая будет отличаться сверхнизким энергопотреблением и рядом других усовершенствований.<br /><br />Согласно утверждениям SIG новая спецификация позволит в течение года работать от одной батарейки, в экономичном режиме. Максимальная дальность эффективного соединения увеличена до 60 метров.<br /><br />Bluetooth SIG заявляет, что официальное тестирование состоится 4 октября в Барселоне на 37 встрече разработчиков Bluetooth устройств. А первая техника с поддержкой Bluetooth 4.0 ожидается в конце этого и начале следующего года.<br />
