Обе модели отличаются новыми методами кодирования позволяющими сохранять несжатое HD видео значительно быстрее чем предыдущие модели. При записи используются усовершенствованные технологии шумоподавления.<br /><br />Оба рекордера оборудованы аналоговым и цифровым тюнерами для приема телепрограмм и поддерживают технологии записи: видео MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, аудио MPEG2 AAC и Dolby Digital. Конечно, возможна запись с жесткого диска на Blu-ray и наоборот.<br />Обе модели начнут продавать в Японии в следующем месяце по цене BD-HDW55 - $1200 и BD-HDW53 - $1090.
