Правительство США собирается потратить 20 млрд. долларов на создание национальной широкополосной сети, которая позволит пользователям иметь доступ в интернет и в национальные сети со скоростью 100 Мб/c . Федеральная комиссия по средствам связи (FСС) представила на рассмотрение конгресса соответствующий план, который называют проектом 21 века.<br />  <br />Такая сеть, объединив дома американцев, позволит получать видео высокого разрешения, проводить видеоконференции и использовать системы удаленной медицинской диагностики. Однако план уже вызвал критику со стороны операторов спутниковых сетей, заявляющих о бесполезной трате денег. А некоторые конгрессмены считают, что такой битрейт нужен лишь некоторым фанатам-игрокам.<br /><br />По сведениям FCC в настоящее время США занимают в мире 15-е место по охвату широких слоев населения широкополосными сетями, доступ к таким сетям имеют 65% американцев.   <br />
