Основное преимущество таких карты  над широко распространенными SD картами – большая вместимость. Недавно ассоциация  CompactFlash анонсировала новую спецификацию CF5 .0, позволяющую еще больше <br />увеличить емкость таких накопителей и улучшить другие параметры.<br /><br />Расширение до 48-ми бит адресной шины позволяет теоретически увеличивать объем памяти карт CF до 144 петабайта (144 тыс. терабайт) вместо нынешних 137 гигабайт. Ускорить запись поможет увеличение буфера со 128 Кбайт до 32 Мбайт. Для очистки неиспользуемого объема памяти разработан специальный алгоритм.
