И если со стационарными плеерами вопрос решился засчет банального взлома на уровне прошивки или сервисных кодов, обход защиты операционной системы Windows и региональных ограничений самих приводов оказался не так прост. Пионером в этом, отнюдь непростом деле, выступила компания SlySoft, выпустив утилиту AnyDVD, которая, после появления носителей нового поколения — Blu-Ray и HD DVD — преобразилась в AnyDVD HD, соответственно, получив поддержку новых форматов. Если быть более точным, данная программа дешифрует CSS и снимает региональное кодирование с DVD-дисков, а также защиту Macrovision на аналоговое копирование. При этом, можно менять настройки DVD и Blu-Ray без предварительного переноса их содержимого на жесткий диск, а также копировать диски с любым региональным кодом непосредственно с привода на записываемую «болванку».
