Такие дисплеи, напомним, способны функционировать в трех режимах: цветном, монохромном и в виде “электронной бумаги”, в зависимости от отображаемого контекста. Можно, к примеру, посмотреть цветной фильм, а затем переключиться в черно-белый режим и работать с текстом. Таким образом, достигается значительная экономия энергии, что особенно важно для мобильных компьютеров.<br /><br />Pixel Qi уже продемонстрировала прототип нетбука с таким “трехрежимным” экраном, а массовое производство таких дисплеев начнется в декабре. Однако планы компании явно не ограничиваются одной лишь компьютерной отраслью. Например, Pixel Qi объявила о намерении разработать телевизоры высокой четкости на основе своих гибридных дисплеев. Энергопотребление подобных HDTV должно составить около 10 ватт, что примерно в десять раз меньше, чем у существующих аналогов.<br /><br />Столь низкое энергопотребление новых HD телевизоров позволит подпитывать их энергией, вырабатываемой солнечными батареями либо обычными компактными аккумуляторами. Это откроет для подобных устройств африканский и другие рынки, где миллионы людей лишены постоянного доступа к электроэнергии. Пока в Pixel Qi предпочитают не говорить о дате выпуска и диагонали экрана своих HDTV, однако уже известно, что стоимость их, по замыслу создателей, должна составить всего 100 долларов.
