Проект приобретает шведская компания Global Gaming Factory X AB. Сейчас проходят различные стадии согласования сделки. Естественно, GGF планирует существенно изменить безнес-модель сервиса, так чтобы была возможность отчислений компенсаций правообладателям, о чем она сразу же объявила. Теперь стали известны некоторые подробности о предстоящей «легализации».<br /><br />В письме акционерам GGF, компания подтверждает, что новый Pirate Bay станет платным сервисом, кроме того, предусмотрен ряд других изменений. В частности, планируется создать систему, которая позволит правообладателям либо авторизовать «незаконный» торрент, либо удалить его с сайта. Если правообладатель выбирает первый вариант, то он получит компенсацию за каждый раз, как файл скачали. Также будут оплачиваться пени и штрафы, если таковые возникнут.<br /><br />При таком подходе таится опасность, что правообладатели начнут массово удалять контент, вместо того, чтобы авторизовывать его. Тогда пользователи платного сервиса не получат ожидаемого продукта и постепенно The Pirate Bay уйдет в небытие. Однако в GGF уверены, что этого не произойдет и уверенность эта основывается на общении с представителями развлекательной индустрии. Если акционеры GGF одобрят план по легализации, то сделка по приобретению Pirate Bay завершится 27 августа.
