Toshiba — «не Blu-Ray’ем единым».

На днях мы уже упоминали о том, что компания Toshiba подала заявку на вступление Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), а также планирует выпуск различных Blu-Ray устройств. Но, как оказалось, выпуском стандартного BD-оборудования компания не ограничится. Заместитель генерального директора по маркетингу европейского подразделения потребительских продуктов Toshiba Оливер Ван Уайнендайл упомянул о выпуске мультимедийного проигрывателя с поддержкой видео высокого разрешения и возможностью подключения к сети Интернет.

К сожалению, характеристики проигрывателя пока не разглашаются. Но скорее всего, этот медиаплеер будут воспроизводить HD-видео не с физических носителей, а с удаленного сервера. Также представитель Toshiba сообщил, что компания полностью прекратила производство и продажи оборудования для HD DVD, оставив лишь техническую поддержку уже проданной продукции. Возобновлять работу над этим стандартом впоследствии в Toshiba также не планируют.
