NEC специализируется на производстве микроконтроллеров и микропроцессоров для бытовой электроники, а Renesas производит аналогичную продукцию для сотовых телефонов и автомобильной электроники. <br /><br />Предполагается, что слияние компаний позволит создать третьего по величине мирового производителя полупроводниковой продукции с годовой выручкой около $17 млрд. Слияние NEC и Renesas планируется завершить к апрелю 2010 г. <br /><br />По оценке аналитиков, крупнейшими производителями полупроводниковой продукции по итогам 2008 г. стали компании Intel (годовой объем продаж – $34,2 млрд) и Samsung ($17,9 млрд). <br />
