Новая прошивка расширяет возможности PS3, предлагая пользователям новые функции. Обновление можно загрузить бесплатно помощью опции System Update в меню XMB. <br /><br />Новая версия прошивки позволяет создавать новые чаты и приглашать в них своих друзей. Все приглашенные получают уведомление, отображаемое в углу экрана. Одновременно в чате, который поддерживает использование контроллера, проводной и беспроводной клавиатуры, может находиться до 16 человек. При этом для общения не обязательно выходить из игры. <br /><br />Функция под названием «динамический нормализатор» уменьшает разницу в громкости при прослушивании различных треков. <br /><br />Если необходимо получить больше информации о только что загруженной игре, теперь достаточно выбрать ее название в меню и воспользоваться опцией Internet Search. С прошивкой 2.70 можно также копировать и вставлять текст из интернет-браузера, а максимальный объем приложений к сообщениям теперь составляет 3 МБ. Веб-браузер теперь корректно поддерживает польский, греческий, чешский, словацкий и турецкий языки. <br />
