Это самые крупные объявленные производственные инвестиции Intel за всю историю компании, пишет Reuters <br /><br />Средства пойдут на переоснащение предприятий Intel в штатах Орегон, Аризона и Нью-Мексико, что позволит компании сохранить порядка 7 тыс. рабочих мест. Всего же на предприятиях и в офисах Intel в США работают более 45 тыс. человек. «Мы инвестируем в Америку, чтобы сохранить за Intel и нашей страной лидирующие позиции в инновационных производствах», — заявил главный исполнительный директор компании Пол Отеллини (Paul Otellini). План Intel был поддержан президентом США Бараком Обамой (Barack Obama). <br /><br />На пресс-мероприятии в Сан-Франциско 10 февраля Intel показала в работе первые чипы для лэптопа и настольного ПК, изготовленные с 32-нм топологией (архитектура Westmere, сменяющая Nehalem). Новые процессоры предлагают более высокую производительность без повышения энергопотребления и выделения тепла. Производить их дешевле, чем Nehalem, так как на подложку стандартного диаметра вмещается больше микросхем. Это особенно важно в свете нестабильной экономической обстановки и падения спроса как на процессоры, так и персональные компьютеры. <br /><br />Массовое производство таких процессоров как для настольных, так и для мобильных ПК планируется начать уже в IV квартале 2009 г. Новые чипы будут двухъядерными, способные организовывать четыре потока вычислений в один момент времени. Кроме того, в них, помимо контроллера оперативной памяти, будет встроен и графический контроллер. Это позволит снизить конечную стоимость компьютеров. Процессоры для лэптопов будут выпускаться под кодовым именем Arrandale, для декстопов — под Clarkdale. <br /><br />Представители компании отметили, что добились значительных успехов в разработке новой технологии, в связи с чем было принято решение ускорить процесс ее выхода на рынок. Ранее на разработку 45- и 32-нм процессоров выделялись равные ресурсы, однако сейчас внедрение более новой топологии стало приоритетом номер один. Компания отказалась от ряда процессоров Nehalem на базе 45-нм технологии. Кроме того, процессоры для ноутбуков будут переведены на 32-нм архитектуру Westmere, минуя Nehalem. Ранее планировалось начать выпуск 45-нм мобильных чипов на архитектуре Nehalem во II половине 2009 г. <br /><br />Напомним, что в январе 2009 г. руководство Intel сообщило о своем решении закрыть предприятия компании в Юго-Восточной Азии и сократить производство в США. <br />
