Ассоциация поддержки и продвижения формата Blu-ray подвела итоги 2008 г. В течение 2,5 лет существования формата в США было продано 10,7 млн соответствующих плееров, включая игровые приставки Sony PlayStation 3. «Это значительный успех», - отмечает глава консорциума Энди Парсонс (Andy Parsons), ссылаясь на то, что в первые 2,5 года существования формата DVD продажи соответствующих плееров в США составили всего 5,4 млн экземпляров.

По данным Adams Media Research, скорость проникновения Blu-ray-плееров в обиход американских семей выше, чем любого другого домашнего устройства, пишет twice.com.

В 2008 г. американские потребители купили втрое больше плееров Blu-ray по сравнению с годом ранее. В прошлом году также существенно выросли продажи дисков. Если к концу 2007 г. в США было продано 5,67 млн дисков с момента существования формата, то только в одном лишь 2008 г. - 24,09 млн дисков. Всего на Blu-ray выпущено около 1 тыс. фильмов.

Аналитики делают весьма оптимистичный прогноз на 2009 г., в котором, по их мнению, продажи Blu-ray-проигрывателей удвоятся или утроятся.
