Финансовый отчет по продажам за второй квартал 2008 года, предоставленный Sony, отмечает, что консоль PS3 была продана в количестве 2.43 миллионов штук по всему миру, за трехмесячный период, конец которого значится 30-ого сентября. Таким образом, продажи увеличились где-то на миллион, по сравнению с тем же вторым кварталом 2007 года, и теперь число консолей PS3 по всему миру составляет 16.84 миллионов штук. Продажи программного обеспечения для данной консоли, также выросли почти вдвое, по сравнению с тем же периодом в 2007, и составили 21.1 миллиона.

Microsoft недавно сообщила, что консоль Xbox 360 была продана по всему миру в количестве 2.2 миллиона штук, за тот же второй квартал 2008 года, что уступает PS3, несмотря на снижение цен со стороны Microsoft, произошедшее в начале-середине сентября.

Третий квартал 2008 года будет интересным полем боя для этих конкурентов, учитывая твердую позицию Sony, насчет нежелания снижать цену на свои консоли. Также интересно посмотреть, как повлияют на продажи последние эксклюзивы для PS3, такие как: LittleBigPlanet и Valkyria Chronicles(эта игра заслуживает хороших продаж). Возможно, что и в третьем квартале PlayStation 3 победит Xbox 360, несмотря на более дружелюбную цену этой консоли. Время покажет.
