Пан-африканский платный ТВ-оператор Multichoice готовится представить своим потребителям HDTV-предложение. Один из руководителей MultiChoice Эбен Грейлинг сообщил, что платный ТВ-оператор начал прокладку инфраструктуры для HDTV в Кении, и что передачи HDTV здесь начнутся в следующем году.Keния стала начальным объектом проекта по той причине, что местная база подписчиков Multichoice выросла на 30%, и эта страна представляет собой быстро развивающийся телевещательный рынок. Грейлинг также сообщил, что у MultiChoice здесь имеется масса планов на следующий год, включая создание программ. «Мы уделяем огромное внимание развитию Кении как ключевому участнику создания африканского контента. В данный момент M-Net, принадлежащая MultiChoice, находится в процесса производства кенийского драматического телесериала и нового ток-шоу, а недавно было подписано соглашение с SuperSport о передаче прав на трансляцию матчей Кенийской Премьер Лиги», - сказал Грейлинг в интервью изданию Standard.
В настоящее время Multichoice уже транслирует в технологии simulcast HD-канал в формате 1080i, но в будущем перейдет на формат 720p, так как этот формат более пригоден для передачи спортивных и новостных телепрограмм.
