Корпорация Sony выпустила новую версию прошивки для Sony PlayStation 3 – 2.50, которая уже доступна для загрузки.

Благодаря новой версии ПО появилась поддержка официальной гарнитуры Socom Bluetooth Headset, а также поддержка технологии Flash 9. Была улучшена функция видеочата – добавлен режим High-Quality (HQ), благодаря которому можно получить более высокое качество. Экранный индикатор показывает уровень заряда в батарее, уровень громкости, а так же сообщает о том, используется ли режим HQ или нет.

По аналогии с PlayStation Portable появилась возможность разбивать видео на равные промежутки времени (1, 2 или 5 минут) и выполняет поиск по этим интервалам (Scene Search).

Появились и некоторые новые возможности в плане энергосбережения. Теперь беспроводной контроллер PS3 может выключаться автоматически спустя заданный интервал времени. Появилась возможность автоматического выключения консоли после завершения загрузки файлов или установки игры. Наконец, теперь пользователи могут делать скриншоты, не прерывая игру. Компания обещает, что эта функция будет доступна впредь во всех играх.
