Американская корпорация General Electric и тайваньская компания Tatung основали совместное предприятие General Displays & Technologies, которое с 2009 г. приступит к производству телевизоров высокой четкости.

Ежегодно планируется выпускать не менее 2 млн. телевизоров и в первый год занять 1% мирового рынка этих устройств. В последующем предприятие планирует увеличить свою рыночную долю до 5-10%.

Компания будет базироваться в Калифорнии. Некоторые из компонентов телевизоров будут собираться в Мексике. По словам Питера Видфалда (Peter Weedfald) из General Displays & Technologies, это будут телевизоры премиум-класса, которые смогут конкурировать с продуктами мировых брендов.

General Electric выпускал катодно-лучевые телевизоры с 1939 по 1987 г.

Компания Tatung, которая была выбрана GE среди 10 кандидатов на создание совместного предприятия, инвестировала в проект $16,1 млн., получив долю 51%. Доля GE составила 49%, а размер инвестиций - $15 млн.
