Крупнейшие в мире производители электроники вместе создадут новый беспроводной стандарт, который позволит передавать потоковое HD-видео с одного источника цифрового сигнала на дисплеи, находящиеся в разных комнатах дома или квартиры, сообщает Associated Press.

В консорциум вошли Sony, Samsung, Motorola, Sharp и Hitachi. Результатом деятельности компаний станет новый стандарт под названием WHDI (сокр. от Wireless Home Digital Interface – цифровой домашний беспроводной интерфейс), который позволит избавиться от многочисленных кабелей, использующихся для соединения аппаратуры на сегодняшний день. Стандарт будет основываться на технологии, разработанной израильской компанией Amimon.

"Если у вас дома есть телевизор, он сможет получить доступ к любому источнику в доме, будь это цифровой ресивер в гостиной, или PlayStation в спальной комнате, или DVD-плеер в другой комнате. Такие возможности несет WHDI", - рассказывает один из основателей Amimon Ноам Гери (Noam Geri). Компания Amimon уже продает чипы, которые предлагают часть вышеперечисленных возможностей. Адаптер Belkin с таким чипом, например, стоит $1000. Но создание единого стандарта, который примут крупнейшие компании, означает, что покупатель сможет приобрести телевизор с поддержкой WHDI одной марки и внешний ТВ-тюнер – другой, и при этом у него не возникнет каких-либо проблем при соединении устройств.

По словам Гери, телевизоры с интегрированными чипами Amimon и поддержкой WHDI появятся в продаже в 2009 г. по цене на $100 выше в сравнении с этими же устройствами без поддержки технологии.

Беспроводная передача потокового видео и звука весьма сложная задача, которую с помощью тех или иных способов пытается решить ряд компаний. Некоторые вендоры, например, используют для этих целей Wi-Fi, однако данная технология беспроводной связи ввиду ограничения своей пропускной способности требует сжатия сигнала, что ведет к потере качества изображения. Кроме того, сжатие сигнала на источнике и его декодирование на другом конце ведут к задержке при передаче, то есть изображение появляется на дисплее чуть позже, чем на источнике.

Один из вариантов решения данных проблем лежит в использовании незадействованной радиочастоты 60 ГГц для сверхбыстрой передачи сигнала без компрессии. Именно этим занимается созданный в 2006 г. консорциум WirelessHD, в который также вошли Sony и Samsung. Однако, как сообщается сейчас, работа над стандартом WirelessHD далека от коммерческой реализации и более того, этот стандарт несет весьма существенное ограничение – передача сигнала может осуществляться на расстоянии до 10 м, то есть внутри комнаты, ни никак не по целому дому.

На вопрос об участии в параллельном проекте представители Sony сообщили, что желают иметь альтернативу. В компании Samsung, которая также входит в группу WirelessHD, рассматривают технологию WHDI как временную до тех пор, пока не будет завершена работа над стандартом WirelessHD, который по сравнению с WHDI сможет обеспечить все же более высокое качество изображения и останется на более длительный срок.

WHDI использует частоту 5 ГГц, такую же, как и некоторые Wi-Fi-устройства. Для того чтобы избежать падения качества сигнала при компрессии специалисты Amimon прибегли к одному хитрому приему. Перед передачей сигнала чип Amimon разделяет видео на фрагменты, которые сортируются в две группы. В первую группу попадают те части видеосигнала, различия между которыми видны человеческому глазу, во вторую – фрагменты, разницу в которых человеческий глаз не улавливает. Затем важные части изображения транслируются в менее сжатом состоянии.
