Многие сомневались относительно возможности выхода этого рекордера за пределами Японии. Тем не менее, компания Panasonic анонсировала для Австралии модель Blu-ray рекордера DMR-BW500 с 500Гб на борту и двумя HD тюнерами. Эти планы не касаются ни американского, ни европейского рынка.

Заметим, что в Австралии уже существует некоторый HD контент формата 1080i, передающийся по эфирному ТВ, поэтому наличие жесткого диска может очень даже пригодиться, несмотря на то, что его объема хватит только на 36 часов видео в формате true HD.

Эфирное ТВ может быть записано на жесткий диск, либо на Blu-ray диски. При этом Blu-ray плеер поддерживает все необходимые функции, включая формат 24p и аудио кодеки. Единственное нарекание вызывает отсутствие Ethernet порта, что может лишить возможности программного обновления для устройства.
Стоимость новинки составит порядка $1000.
