Напомним, что в основе технологии IMOD лежит идея формирования цветного изображения методом интерференции световых волн, точно так же, как это происходит в природе, например, в крыльях бабочки. <br /><br />Каждый пиксель IMOD-матрицы представлен интерференционным модулятором (Interference Modulator). Он состоит из двух элементов: полупрозрачной пленки на стеклянной подложке и расположенной под ней отражающей мембраны, которая может находиться в двух состояниях: в открытом и закрытом. В зависимости от напряжения, пиксель переходит в открытое или закрытое состояние, между пленкой и мембраной образуется небольшой зазор и свет, отраженный от мембраны, проходит обратно через пленку – пиксель начинает гореть красным, синим или зеленым. Черный цвет пикселя формируется при закрытом состоянии элемента. <br /><br />Основным преимуществом IMOD-экранов является то, что они практически не требуют подсветки, максимально используя окружающий свет. Подсветка необходима только в условиях крайне низкой освещенности или ее полного отсутствия. <br /><br />Мониторы, выполненные по светоотражающей технологии IMOD, по мнению создателей, в ближайшее время смогут заменить обычные ЖК-дисплеи. А также Qualcomm планирует уже сейчас начать производство мобильных устройств на базе новых дисплеев. Первый 0,9-дюймовый IMOD цветной дисплей mirasol будет представлен в портативном, водонепроницаемом и ударопрочном mp3-плеере Freestyle Audio. <br />
