По словам Samsung, новинка обеспечивает более естественное отображение движущихся изображений, поскольку она поддерживает кадровую развертку 240 Гц. Компания планирует показать 15-дюймовую панель Blue Phase LCD на мероприятии SID (Society for Information Display) 2008, которое открывается в Лос-Анджелесе 18 мая. <br /><br />Важной особенностью Blue Phase LCD, по мнению разработчика, является невысокая стоимость, обусловленная отсутствием слоев, выравнивающих жидкие кристаллы. Такие слои необходимы в большинстве других типов панелей — например, в широко используемых панелях типа Twisted Nematic, In-Plane Switching и Vertical Alignment. В случае Blue Phase слои формируются самостоятельно, что устраняет необходимость механического выравнивания и связанных с этим технологических операций. Это сокращает число этапов производственного цикла, заметно снижая себестоимость изготовления панелей. Кроме того, новые панели имеют меньшую вероятность повреждения в результате механического воздействия (приводящего к нарушению равномерности распределения кристаллов и, как следствие, к искажениям). <br /><br />Как известно, в современных панелях используются овердрайв-цепи, позволяющие повысить скорость реакции пикселя. В новой панели малое время отклика, соответствующее частоте 240Hz Гц и даже выше, обеспечивается без применения таких цепей. <br /><br />Термин Blue Phase был выбран неслучайно — когда разработчики впервые наблюдали работу панели в новом режиме, она сопровождалась голубоватым свечением. Хотя Samsung не является первооткрывателем эффекта, компания первой создала прототип коммерческого продукта. Массовый выпуск Blue Phase LCD южнокорейский электронный гигант рассчитывает развернуть в 2011 году. <br />
