Спутник, получивший название DIRECTV 11, начнет свою работу в начале сентября этого года. <br />Новый спутниковый ресурс способен обеспечить HD контентом 84% американских семейств. А в 2009 году планируется запуск еще одного спутника, который предоставит емкость уже для 200 национальных HD каналов. <br />Оператор DIRECTV продолжает расширять свою HD платформу, в первую очередь за счет добавления новых эксклюзивных интерактивных спортивных пакетов, таких как NCAA Mega March Madness, NASCAR HotPass и NFL Sunday Ticket. DIRECTV также намерен добавить больше HD контента к своей VOD платформе, которая должна появиться в ближайшее время.    <br />На сегодняшний день, ведущий американский спутниковый оператор предлагает 92 национальных HD канала, которые распространяются в 77 городах США, что составляет 76% всех семейств страны. Основной конкурент DIRECTV, компания DISH Network, оказалась не столь удачлива при запуске своего нового спутника. Спутник SES Americom (AMC-14), который должен был обеспечить ресурс для новых HD каналов, не смог достичь нужной геостационарной орбиты, поэтому планы по запуску новых HD каналов компании DISH Network пришлось пока отложить.
