Великобритания начала свой переход на цифровое телевидение уже много месяцев тому назад, но пройти данная операция может не так гладко. Существует серьезная обеспокоенность по поводу недостатка HDTV в Европе, и последний отчет свидетельствует о том, что проникновение HD-DTT (цифрового эфирного HDTV) составит всего 7% на момент полного исчезновения аналогового вещания в 2012 году. По этой причине, Великобритания, действующая в этом направлении как законодатель мод в Европе, рассматривает вариант о предоставлении на конкурсной основе дополнительных 12 частот. С одной стороны, это приведет к появлению дополнительных 40 HD-DTT каналов, что не может не радовать конечных потребителей. Но, с другой стороны, заставит телекомпании модифицировать свое оборудование по передаче сигнала, которое уже готовилось, и уже было рассчитано на обычное цифровое вещание, а это все стоит очень больших вложений. Конечно, такая новость не может не порадовать Европу, тем не менее, без турбулентности здесь вряд ли обойдется.
