Toshiba тестирует графический сопроцессор SpursEngine

На днях компания Toshiba представила чип SpursEngine. SpursEngine выполнен на базе четырех ядер Synergistic Processing Element (SPE). Кстати, ядра SPE являются основой процессора Cell Broadband Engine, применяющегося в игровой приставке Sony PlayStation 3.

В чипе SpursEngine имеются блоки кодирования и декодирования видео в форматах MPEG-2/H.264. SpursEngine играет роль сопроцессора, высвобождая центральный процессор от ресурсоемких задач параллельной обработки потоков видеоданных.

К моменту появления в продаже, данное устройство должно будет стоить порядка $50.
