Недавно прозвучавшая информация о том, что Microsoft планирует интегрировать привод Blu-ray в игровую консоль Xbox 360, не подтвердилась. Напомним, основанием для нее послужили сведения о соответствующих переговорах, якобы имевших место между Sony и Microsoft. Один из руководителей направления Xbox 360, Аарон Гринберг (Aaron Greenberg), развеял слухи, заявив, что Microsoft не ведет переговоры с Sony и не планирует добавлять поддержку Blu-ray в игровую консоль. <br /><br />«Xbox сейчас не ведет переговоры с Sony или Blu-ray Association относительно интеграции Blu-ray», — сказал Гринберг в интервью Reuters. Microsoft перестала поставлять приводы HD DVD для Xbox 360, и фокусируется на онлайновых сервисах, обеспечивающих загрузку видеозаписей, в том числе, высокой четкости. <br /><br />Итак, уход HD DVD не означает, что его место автоматически займет Blu-ray. Внедрение приводов Blu-Ray и здесь не является столь очевидным.<br />Обозреватель PBS Роберт Крингли (Robert Cringely) полагает, что даже после объявления Toshiba о прекращении поддержки HD DVD (что означает де-факто смерть стандарта) в Купертино не будут спешить с добавлением официальной поддержки Blu-ray в профессиональные приложения вроде Final Cut Studio. По мнению обозревателя, компания рассматривает Blu-ray как угрозу HD-контенту, продаваемому в онлайновом медиамагазине iTunes Store. <br /><br />На самом деле, для того чтобы создать конкуренцию Blu-ray, ассортимент iTunes должен пополниться контентом в формате 1080p, что в настоящий момент будет сделать довольно сложно вследствие огромных размеров файлов — по оценкам Крингли, в этом случае для хранения одного фильма может потребоваться до 8 ГБ свободного дискового пространства.<br />
