Права на кино, телепрограммы, музыку и другой контент по-прежнему продаются отдельно в каждой стране, хотя информация в сети может распространяться между странами за доли секунды. <br /><br />"Потребители и компании в Европе увязаны цифровыми путами. Они не могут свободно смотреть то, что хотят. В 21-м веке, это абсурд ", сказал вице-президент комиссии ЕС  Андрус Ансип на пресс-конференции, и добавил.  "Но в глубине моего сердца, я хотел бы сказать, что ненавижу блокировку по геграфическому принципу. Я думаю, что это старомодно."<br />Сегодня люди уже используют различные инструменты, чтобы обойти гео-блокировку и   комиссия считает, что с ней нужно покончить. <br /><br />Инициатива является частью грандиозного плана, который направлен на модернизацию законы об авторском праве, чтобы улучшить доступ в сети к источникам искусства, культуры и развлечений для граждан Европы. Некоторые исключения останутся, например, если местные законы в стране запрещают азартные игры. <br /><br />Андрус Ансип понимает, что задача у Комиссии ЕС очень непростая, так как европейские министры отстаивают интересы отрасли. Так они недавно проголосовали за тарифы на роуминг до 2018 года, что Ансип назвал "шуткой". Те же министры предложили более слабые требования к сетевому нейтралитету, чтобы некоторые компании платили за приоритетный трафик. Несколько местных компаний надеются сохранить практику гео-блокирования, чтобы избежать конкуренции с операторами из других стран.
