Очередной актуальной новинкой от Google стал видеокодек VP9, который может выглядеть как конкурент для стандарта H265 и кодека HEVC.<br /><br />Как известно свободно распространяемый кодек VP9 имеет схожие характеристики с HEVC, хотя и проигрывает по уровню сжатия видео примерно на 1%. Но Google заявляет, что VP9 более адаптирован к специфическим жестким требованиям сетевого обмена данными.<br /><br />С целью популяризации своей разработки компания будет демонстрировать новую технологию на CES 2014 с такими уважаемыми партнерами, как Panasonic, LG и Sony. Свою заинтересованность в технологии Google демонстрируют также ARM, Intel, Broadcom, Marvell, Samsung, Sharp и Toshiba.<br /><br />Google ожидает увидеть кодек VP9  сначала на мобильных устройствах, а потом уже в телевизорах к 2015 году.
