Sony, наверное, последней объявила о прекращении с января 2013 года производства плееров для кассет с магнитной лентой.<br /><br />Несмотря на повсеместную цифровую революцию, кассетные плееры Sony долгое время  продолжали пользоваться популярностью у отдельной части коллекционеров.<br /><br />Sony первой выпустила в 1979 году кассетный плеер, предоставив возможность слушать музыку не только дома. Первый плеер Нобутоси Кихара разработал специально для основателя компании Sony Ахио Морита, чтобы он мог коротать время в поездках.
