Видеоформат XAVC основан на стандарте сжатия видео MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, позволяет вести съемку с 12-битным кодированием цвета при скорости 60 кадров в секунду для разрешения 4К и до 180 кадров в секунду для ныне используемого формата HD. <br /><br />К настоящему времени новый формат видео поддержали четырнадцать компаний, включая Adobe и Apple, подписав с Sony лицензионное соглашение. Sony заявляет, что формат может быть в последующем использован и для потребительских продуктов.
