Одной из причин такой пассивности является отсутствие материалов для просмотра. Между тем один из крупнейших операторов спутникового ТВ – американская компания DirecTV объявила о планах по вводу в эксплуатацию первой UHDTV станции. <br /><br />Как известно, опытное вещание в формате сверхвысокой четкости произойдет во время Лондонской Олимпиады и при этом будет использоваться новый перспективный частотный Ка-диапазон. Ныне используемый в спутниковом вещании Ku-диапазон уже не позволяет вместить широкополосные каналы UHDTV. DirecTV планирует в ближайшие 4-5 лет перейти на новый перспективный с финансовой и технической точки зрения частотный Ku-диапазон. По заявлениям из Японии, там эра массового с UHDTV планируется с 2020 года.
