Инициатором такого решения выступает сама Ассоциация потребительской электроники Consumer Electronic Association (CEA). По данным CEA только 8% домов в США оборудованы эфирными телеантеннами и аналоговыми телеприемниками. Поэтому специалисты CEA считают, что эффективнее будет использовать диапазон метровых и дециметровых каналов для дальнейшего развития широкополосных беспроводных систем связи.<br /><br />Впрочем, эти планы касаются пока только США и только аналоговых сигналов. Дело в том, что передаваемые в цифровом виде телеканалы могут сжиматься по занимаемой полосе частот. В стандартной полосе частот может передаваться до нескольких каналов. <br />Таким образом, десяток бесплатных национальных телеканалов займут незначительную часть от используемого сегодня спектра радиочастот. А оставшаяся часть на конкурсной основе может быть очень выгодно реализована.  <br />
