Еще более скоростным и удобным стал представленный компанией Intel в прошлом году интерфейс Thunderbolt, который уже взяла на вооружение компания Apple. Новый интерфейс способен заменить USB, SCSI, SATA и FireWire, максимальная длина кабелей у Thunderbolt сейчас составляет 3 метра, имеется возможность подключения нескольких устройств в цепочку.<br /><br />Intel активно рекламирует свою новую разработку, и в настоящее время Thunderbolt прижился в ноутбуках Apple.  Выпустить свои внешние накопители с Thunderbolt планируют компании  LaCie, Promise и Western Digital.
