Профессор Тан изобрел органические светодиоды во время работы в компании Kodak еще в 1970-х годах. Премия Вольфа вручается ежегодно израильским фондом Вольфа и считается второй по престижности после Нобелевской премии. Каждый третий из лауреатов премии Вольфа получал и Нобелевскую премию.<br /><br />Тан сегодня известен, как один признанных специалистов в области органической электроники и фотоэлектроники. Вместе Таном премию раздели еще два ученых, все они сегодня работают в университетах США.
