По данным Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), распространение дисков высокого разрешения среди пользователей происходит настолько быстрыми темпами, что несомненно приведет к тому, что Blu-ray перейдет в массовый сегмент.

Фрэнк Симонис (Frank Simonis), председатель BDA заявил, что в четвертом квартале 2008 года ожидается значительный рост всего, что так или иначе связано с Blu-ray: бытовой электроники и приводов для персональных компьютеров, и самих фильмов и музыки, выпускаемых на BD-дисках. Из цифр, приводимых агентством FutureSource Consulting, видно, что общая сумма проданных Blu-ray дисков по всей Европе за год составит 12 миллионов экземпляров и это примерно равно 2% от общих продаж видео. В следующем году ожидается бурный рост продаж, и к концу 2009 года, доля Blu-ray в общих продажах должна составить по прогнозам около 6%.
К 2012 году цена на диск Blu-ray в среднем будет составлять порядка 650 рублей.

«Мы заложили отличный фундамент, и надеемся на то, что уже в скором времени на рынке Европы будет присутствовать большое разнообразие продуктов Blu-ray”, сказал Симонс.
