Тайваньская компания Via Technologies анонсировала чипсет со встроенным медиапроцессором – VX855, предназначенный для нетбуков. К основным достоинствам интегрированного медиапроцессора относятся: возможность декодирования Full HD-видео, поддержка популярных кодеков, включая MPEG-2/4, DivX и WMV9, поддержка трехмерной графики и 8-канального звука с битрейтом 192 КГц.

Чипсет обладает встроенным контроллером оперативной памяти DDR2, который позволяет подключить до двух модулей, и контроллером ввода/вывода с возможностью подключения до шести USB-портов. Чипсет может работать в паре с центральными процессорами Via Nano, C7 и Eden с системной шиной от 400 до 800 МГц. Поддерживаются все популярные операционные системы, включая грядущую Windows 7. Размер микросхемы составляет 27 x 27 мм – это на 46% меньше в сравнении с традиционными двухчиповыми решениями.

Низкое потребление электрической энергии, которое составляет 2,3 Вт, и, соответственно, небольшое тепловыделение позволят – как утверждают в Via – конструировать портативные системы без охлаждающих вентиляторов. О том, когда начнутся поставки VX855, не сообщается.

В настоящий момент только Nvidia предлагает подобное решение, платформу Ion, которая включает графический процессор GeForce и способна декодировать Full HD. Однако на рынке пока не продается еще ни одного компьютера с таким решением. Процессор Intel Atom N280 с соответствующим чипсетом Intel могут декодировать 720p.
