Хотя предыдущая версия, FireWire 800, так и не получила особо широкого распространения, IEEE продолжает развивать стандарт 1394-2008.

Нововведений в интерфейсе 1394 образца 2008 года как и ранее будет сразу два: утверждены оба варианта – 1600 и 3200. Отмечается, что новые спецификации обладают полной обратной совместимостью с предшествующими вариациями – портами 400 и 800, однако, может возникнуть необходимость использовать переходники, так вид коннекторов скорее всего будет изменен.

В октябре нам обещают полные характеристики будущих стандартов. Видимо разработчик всеми силами пытается успеть выпустить на рынок свой продукт, опередив главного конкурента, разрабатывающего стандарт USB 3.0, выход которого предположительно состоится в 2010 году.
