Компания объявила о создании технологии для записи Blu-ray дисков с 8х скоростью, объединяющей аналоговый и цифровой сигнальный процессоры в однокристальном чипе SCOMBO/UM2A. Объединение схем позволило снизить энергопотребление на 33%, а размер чипа – на 20%.

Сейчас самые быстрые приводы NEC, использующие раздельный чип предыдущего поколения SCOMBO/UM, пишут болванки на 5х. Опытные образцы нового привода уже разосланы по производителям. Имеется и удешевленная версия системы (SCOMBO/UM2P), без возможности записи, но с высокой скоростью чтения BD.

Теперь NEC работает над созданием 16x технологий записи BD.
