В указанном процессоре используются ядра K8, которые также используются в процессорах AMD Turion, однако, в отличие от последнего, новый чип обладает улучшенной схемотехникой, позволяющей сократить потребление электрической энергии – важное свойство, учитывая область применения. Особенностью AMD Griffin является способность изменять тактовую частоту и напряжение каждого из ядер в отдельности. При этом их тактовая частота в режиме минимальной нагрузки может спускаться вплоть до 300 МГц. Благодаря раздельному электропитанию, работать на своей тактовой частоте и своем напряжении сможет не только каждое ядро, но и память. <br /><br />В платформе Puma будет наличествовать аппаратная поддержка DirectX 10, а также аппаратная поддержка универсального видеокодека (UVD) для декодирования видео высокой четкости с HD-носителей. Технология PowerXPress позволит системе переключаться с интегрированного графического контроллера на внешний, более мощный дискретный адаптер. Специальная технология HyperFlash в связке с Windows Vista ReadyBoost и ReadyDrive позволит сократить время загрузки приложений. <br /><br />Платформа AMD Puma должна вступить в конкуренцию с платформой Centrino главного конкурента AMD компании Intel. Отметим, что на той же выставке Computex компания Intel собирается представить уже вторую версию своей мобильной платформы – Centrino 2, также известную как Montevina. <br />
