Компании Dolby Laboratories и SIM2 Multimedia продемонстрировали прототип нового жидкокристаллического дисплея с высоким динамическим диапазоном (HDR), в котором используется разработанная в Dolby система светодиодной подсветки с локальным изменением яркости света.

Технологии HDR, созданные специалистами Dolby, используют способности светодиодной системы подсветки, чтобы обеспечить невероятную степень контраста и яркости. Как утверждается, это позволяет достичь качество изображения, «соответствующее реальному миру» по визуальному восприятию глубины, детализации и цвета.

Проектирование системы подсветки и средств охлаждения системы подсветки выполнила компания SIM2. Кроме того, SIM2 выполнит референсную разработку для серийного производства.

Особенности прототипа:

* Размер экрана — 46 дюймов (117 см) по диагонали;
* Разрешение экрана — 1920 × 1080 пикселей;
* Соотношение сторон экрана — 16:9;
* Количество светодиодов в системе подсветки — 1838;
* Яркость — более 4000 кд/кв.см
* Равномерность свечения — более 95% по всей площади.

Что касается контраста, компания без ложной скромности указывает, что он равен бесконечности. Смысл этого утверждения становится ясен, если вспомнить, что контраст — это отношение максимальной яркости к минимальной, а минимальная яркость свечения светодиодов равна нулю. В интервале между минимальным и максимальным значением яркости свечения светодиодов, установленных в системе подсветки прототипа, задается 16-битным числом. Схема управления прототипа выполнена на программируемых вентильных матрицах Xilinx Virtex.

Интересно, что над дизайном корпуса прототипа потрудился известный дизайнер Джорджио Револдини (Giorgio Revoldini), который уже не раз оформлял продукцию SIM2 Multimedia — например, DLP-проектор Grand Cinema HT3000.
